#2 for #1

So it's number 2 surgery for our number 1 child (meaning first born:)

Cameron has been having really intense ear pain for about 2 weeks. After switching his antibiotics and numerous doctor's visits and even using narcotics - none of which was helping. The pediatrician finally recommended going to the ENT (ear, nose and throat doctor). ((we know each other well between me and my three kids having consistent ear problems)) Anyway, after a couple of tests we realized he needed a new set of tubes and his adnoids taken out. (He got his first set of tubes when he was about a year and a half. Owen already got his second set last November).

So leaving at 6:30 am this morning, our day quickly began. We were so blessed to have willing friends to watch the other two. A neighbor watched Zach and one of Owen's preschool friend's mom was so nice to be willing to watch Owen (even though we've never really met).

Cameron woke up so happy and had a blast putting his collection of dinosaurs all over the waiting room.
I got his this little notebook for a 'before' surprise. He had us draw an airplane and a dinosaur standing on grass.
Then they take him back....

The doctor comes in after the surgery to tell us how it went. He said he had the dreaded "glue ears". He explained that there's been fluid in his ears for so long that it mixes and becomes a glue/cement type substance. I guess he had to suction long strings/chunks and flush a few times in each ear. The doctor left and we waited....

Then we heard him coming....

Screaming, thrashing, kicking. Throwing his body every which way. (He was like this last time coming out of anesthesia, so we knew to expect it) He'd be on my lap, then hate me and fall down to the floor, then miss me and come back to my lap.

Here he is not being able to decide if he hates me or loves me-
But maybe loving me more than hating me, since he's on his tiptoes-
Daddy found a dinosaur game on his phone that distracted him for about 60 seconds.
Then he found "Little Bear" on youtube. We just had to get him to take his ibuprofen and prove that he could swallow so we could get discharged. Notice we're on the floor again...

The show worked good enough that he finally took the medicine and tried his orange popcycle. He let me carry him out to the car without trying to thrash at all:)

Once we were on our way home he remembered I had a present for him - a new dinosaur toy. That toy fixed it all! We got home and put on a movie and he laid on top of the 'tunnel' (where the two couches come together). He's doing great!

We still have a couple recovery days ahead of us, but we have already felt so blessed. Thank you to our friends for watching kids, grandma and grandpa for being willing to help when needed, extra angels (which we feel) from Oma (and a mommy for the mommy to talk to), the great snacks and much needed staples from my sister-in-law, and their preschool teacher who not only called, but stopped by to see how he was, and our neighbor who helped her kids make get well cards and brought treats for him and his (much neglected feeling) brother.

I love that even though some days are 'harder' than others,
there's always SO SO SO much good and love to be felt!
