Another week at the Jackson's ;)
On Tuesday I finally had an hour window that I could actually get something accomplished...... Until Zach started crying. You can't tell very good from the picture, but it's about 1/8 inch thick and up both the sides. After asking a couple neighbors- we chose to NOT make a trip to stitches.
The next morning I was at the doctors for the babies 6 month check up. After all the weighing and shots and cryin and putting clothes back on, we all (with Zach too) get loaded into the van when I see Trevor's been trying to get ahold of me and text me to call him immediately. The school had called him and Caneron got hurt at recess- and it's his neck- and they can't calm him down. I drove like a crazy person back to Richmond (I figured the cops would understand). When I got to the school I half expected to see a Cameron making a bigger deal out of a small thing (he does this often at home). But I quickly realized how much pain he truly was in. All of the sweet staff were rallied around him with a pillow and an ice pack in the office doing whatever they could to help my sweet boy. (He really is so likable). They were great to help me back out to the car with all the little ones and quickly got Owen out of his class for me.
I then drove back to town (literally to the same building I had just been in) even crazier and faster than before. Cameron couldn't stop panicking. He was getting more and more frantic from his pain. I called the doctors office and they said to go straight to the ER. I called my mother in law to see if she was in town. I called Trevor to meet us there. Every call made him worse. I finally just started signing primary songs very quietly to help him to have to be quieter himself to hear them and to calm down.
We got there right as a huge rush of people. They tried to joke with him and help him smile- but 'getting the fastest wheel chair' did not sound enjoyable to a panicked pain riden boy. He couldn't sit down without hurting, he couldn't stand up without hurting... They got us back fast :) When the aids asked the nurse about him they quickly demanded that he get a neck brace on. The thought of touching his neck sent him through another loop. I reminded him some of the techniques we used to stay calm through all of the medical testing he went through for celiac.
After vitals and some ibuprofen he got some X-rays. It really hurt to lay back at all or to not be hunched forward, so they let him do the X-rays standing instead of laying.
We hung out for a long time. I try really hard to not let the kids play my phone and such at the doctors so that they know how to keep busy without technology all the time. AND I've experienced numerous time that I desperately needed that battery for phone calls later instead of games now. Luckily I had a bag with some books and such that Zach had packed for himself when we were at the doctor with the babies.
After his ibuprofen hit and he'd been in the brace for awhile, he started looking and acting more like my sweet Cameron I know and love....
The X-rays came back normal (HUGE sigh of relief!) the doctor said he probably pulled more than just muscles- but the tendons and ligaments too. He took the brace off to send us on our merry way and within seconds I could feel Cameron's heart beating fast from the pain. I quickly understood exactly what was happening and asked if we could keep the brace- it supporting his neck and keeping it in one place made the world of difference on his pain.
Right before bed Trevor gave him a priesthood blessing. It said that he would be able to sleep and that he would heal well. That night he slept with the brace on and slept all night and went right back to sleep when I woke him for more ibuprofen.
He did great in the mornin until it was time to get ready for school. After a long conversation, I realized he was nervous that kids would bump him and make it hurt, or worse, that they would stare at him. So I told him I could come and talk to his class and explained that people stare because they want to know what happened and want to know if you're ok.
His awesome teacher greated me with a smile when I came in unannounced and asking to take a few minutes of the morning. With all the kids at the rug I told them how it happened, what we did at the ER, explained the brace and how it went on, and added that it kind of looks like Darth Vader. We let them ask their questions and come up with their own list of things that try should NOT do. I was impressed that they said they shouldn't laugh at him or push him.
Cameron seemed great, so I left him to have a good day at school. He was hurting by the time noon came around- but did great. He even told me that nobody stared at him at all and that Ms Sharp helped him pick a buddy to stay in with him at recess. (We for the idea from his friend Ean when he had his broken leg).
He is doing great! Still hurting and not normal, but improving a ton every day!!!
My last couple favorite moments I font want to forget-
When the nurse asked Cameron what his pain scale was, I explained it in detail for him. I expected him to take a really long time to answer- he quickly said 'Four'.
As the nurse was leaving our room the first time she asked me if I had a medical background. I laughed and told her I just had a lot of experience ;)
